Carry the One Radio

Carry the One is a small team of young scientists at UCSF who are passionate about bringing science stories straight to the public's ear in an entertaining, digestible way. Founded in 2009 by a graduate student at UCSF, I served as co-president of the group from 2017-2019. With Carry the One, I wrote, produced, narrated, or directed 14 episodes on topics from evolution to homeopathy, a sampling of which you can find below. I also created a new logo, website, and branding materials for the podcast, and ran many workshops on telling science stories for students, postdocs, faculty, and staff.

Honey, I Shrunk the Data

The servers that make up the cloud are enormous, resource-intensive—and running out of room. What if we could store data in a more highly compressed form: DNA?

Building Breasts & Brains

We don’t have enough organs to keep up with the demand for transplants. In this episode, we talk to researchers who are developing ways to grow mini-organs in the lab.

Homeopathy & Feminism

Homeopathy falls in the realm of pseudoscience today, but historically, homeopathic hospitals welcomed women physicians when conventional medicine did not. We delve into the history of homeopathy as a feminist practice, and the ways it has been co-opted for profit.

Young Scientist Spotlight

I started the Young Scientist Spotlight series at Carry the One to highlight the stories of early-career researchers. In this episode, I spoke with Dr. Z Yan Wang about her research on bumblebee society and octopus self-destruction.
